DR. DAVID SHUMSKY

Dr. Dave Shumsky is native to Winnipeg and the Southdale area.  He attended school at École Guyot and Collège Béliveau before completing his Bachelors degree in Microbiology at the University of Manitoba.  He earned his Doctorate in Optometry at the University of Waterloo where he was the recipient of the Vistakon Award for Patient Care.  He returned to Winnipeg after graduating and has been working in Southdale since 2003.

Dr. Shumsky practices all aspects of optometry and has specific interests in urgent care, inflammatory disease and retinal disease.  He actively lectures to various professional groups on such subjects.

Dr. Shumsky loves to be active in general and within his community.  He competes in half marathons, plays hockey and has been a life long fan of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.  In fact, he has been the optometrist to the Blue Bombers since 2006.  Dr. Shumsky is a big believer in education and has been providing shadowing opportunities for prospective optometry students, acting as externship supervisor for final year optometry students.  He has offered the Blink Eyecare Scholarship at Collège Béliveau since 2006 for students looking to pursue studies in Sciences.

Because of his attendance in the French immersion school system, Dr. Shumsky is pleased to provide services in French and English.

“It has been a goal of mine to give back to a community that has given so much to me.  It would be my honour to be your eye care professional.”

DR. HEATHER EVANS

Dr. Heather Evans received her 4-year Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Biology, from the University of Winnipeg. She graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 2004. She is proud to have been part of the team at Blink Eyecare since 2005, and is happy caring for patients of all ages.

Dr. Evans also enjoys working once a week with local ophthalmologist, Dr. James Wiens, at Image Plus Laser Eye Centre, providing post-surgical care for patients following laser vision correction and cataract surgeries. She has been involved in several international clinical studies involving Lasik and dry eye.

In her spare time, Dr. Evans loves spending time outdoors, whether it’s downhill skiing in the winter or cycling in the summer. She finds volunteering at the Children’s Hospital Foundation’s Teddy Bear’s Picnic to be a lot of fun, as well as a great way to educate parents about children’s vision.

Future goals include beating Dr. Shumsky’s time in the Manitoba Half Marathon this year.
